The Final 2

So... Syesha Mercado is out of AI. Not that there isn't anything surprising about it- everybody knew that it would be down to the 2 Davids. It's not something that I particularly like, but I'd have been VERY surprised if it had been any other way. Still I think that this season's top 3 have been among the weakest of all seasons, a far cry from season 4, when Vonzell Solomon, Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice all seemed very deserving candidates; and someone as good as Anwar Robinson couldn't even make it to the top 5. Each contestant had something fresh to offer. However, in this season, David Cook, comes across as any other Chad Kroeger wannabe while the other David, despite being a decent singer, doesn't have anything that makes him stand out. Also, I majorly disagreed with the judges' comments this Tuesday. David Cook's rendition of "Don't Wanna Miss Thing" was, at best, OK. If you ask me, he killed a classic. So much so for trying to be a rocker. Kelly Clarkson is a better Rocker. And Syesha's 'Fever' was much better than the judges gave her credit for. All of them seemed biased against her and gave her no chance of lasting any longer.
It wasn't that there weren't any good guys this season. The good guys, just never made it. Micheal Johns' "It's all wrong, but it's all right" (Dolly Parton) is one of the best Idol performances EVER. Carly Smithson's "Jesus Christ Superstar" (Neil Diamond) was another very good performance. But Idol, has never offered much for artists who don't appeal to teeny boppers. Still, Johns is doing decent for himself. He performed at Ellen's 50th birthday party, her show's 10th anniversary, The White House Correspondents Dinner, etc. (What is Taylor Hicks doing now, btw?)

Anyhow, as much as I detest both the finalists of the season -I'll still watch the finale. My bets are on Archuleta. No matter who wins, both the David's will live anyway. Both of them will sell atleast half a million records. Either way, they'll do better than last season's top 2. WAY better.

Let's hope the next season has something better. That's probably the only thing the producers can do to do something about the flagging interest among the viewers. Or hopefully Mark Burnett will give 'Rockstar' a 3rd try.
